ID.Buzz

Who else but Volkswagen, the automobile world’s king of all eye-catching vans since at least the 1960s, could garner so much hype for an all-electric minibus?

The answer is, well, no one but Volkswagen could be the subject of so much attention for this eagerly awaited model.

Though pop culture has perennially associated the famed Volkswagen bus with hippies and phrases like “flower power,” the ID.Buzz has a legitimate claim to be a favorite of the environmentally conscious, hippies or not, due to the fact that it is going to be one of the first all-electric vans hitting the market, making Volkswagen an innovator in that field.

Read on for a rundown of what is currently known, and what is yet to be revealed, about this much-anticipated EV (electric vehicle).

Battery Life

Since the future owners of the ID.Buzz will be stopping at the thousands-and-growing number of EV stations around the country instead of gas stations, it is imperative for prospective buyers to know what the battery life will look like for this electric van.

The U.S. models of the ID.Buzz can be expected to have a larger battery than European models, which already have a solid 77-kWh. As far as charging goes, Volkswagen has claimed that the car can go from 5% to 80% charged within thirty minutes. American ID.Buzz models are also expected to get about 260 miles per charge.

The Exterior

As always, Volkswagen has gone with a retro look, which is as much a part of their vans’ brand at this point as the logo itself. A sliding door will be the standard option here, and the All-Wheel Drive feature ensures that this van will be worth more than what it looks.

Inside the Van

Though significant changes have happened under the hood, you can expect the same roomy and comfortable interior that has long been a signature feature of the Volkswagen bus.

Different models of the Buzz can fit anywhere from 5 to 7 people (the larger version is expected to hit US car lots).

Even if the exterior of the vehicle is an aesthetic throwback to the 1960s, you can bet that the interior is much more technologically advanced than models from that era.

One such feature is a 10- or 12-inch screen equipped with a GPS and media system, bringing a higher standard of infotainment than anyone on a cross-country drive to Woodstock ever had access to.

More Tech Advancements

A big feature of the ID.Buzz will be the Memory Function, which automates parking on pre-saved routes, making parking an easier experience in a fairly large vehicle.

The Volkswagen Travel Assist feature will also gather data from across the Internet to give you real-time updates about hazards, weather changes, and road conditions.
